Slap, Crackle, Pop (2024 WSU Recital, #6/8)
Original artwork, 22” x 30” mixed media on paper, unframed
The beginning of this piece was full of surprises. Aaron's unconventional saxophone sounds – multiphonics and slap tonguing – laid the groundwork, and when I introduced a custom stamp, the piece quickly took on a life of its own. Aaron and I fell into a rhythm together, the physicality of the performance building with each mark. My synesthesia guided my choices: I selected numbers based on the colors they represented. The piece became a playful exchange between us, and you could feel the joy in the room as the performance unfolded.
