Aloha, Indeed (2024 WSU Recital, #8/8)

$200.00

Original artwork, 30” x 22” mixed media on paper, unframed

“Aloha, Indeed” emerged from an unexpected moment—Aaron, standing in front of the camera in his aloha shirt, which got projected onto the screen behind us. Inspired by the tropical vibe, I started with small palm trees, when an accidental drip immediately altered my plans - the very spirit of improvisation. From there, the percussion and sax began to settle on some rhythmic structure. As the groove deepened - in 3, in 4, in 7 - I echoed those structures with abacus beads perched in an abstract sky. This piece feels like a conversation, spontaneous, playful, humble, and kind - just like the spirit of aloha.

This piece was created with special guest Darryl "Doc D" Singleton on percussion.
